Happy Feel Good Friday, fam! It’s feeling more like freeze your _ (you fill in the blank) off.
But, this story may just warm you up.
Jaylan Henderson, 14, leads a booming give back campaign to keep the homeless warm during the winter months in the Queen City.
“My mission for Join Jaylan’s Journey is to help people in need, help people in my community,” Jaylen told WSOC news station.
He is doing just that by, saving up all his money to buy hats, gloves and scarves for the homeless. Jaylan stores the winter accessories in bins and hands them out on a day of service.
Jaylan chose the perfect day: Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday.
“He said that he felt like Martin Luther King would be working on his birthday, that he wouldn’t be at home,” said La’Gina McClinton, Jaylan’s mom. “That’s why he said he wanted to do it on MLK’s birthday.”
Jaylan launched the campaign four years ago and has only grown since.
“I think the first year, we had about enough items for 200 people. Now we’re about 500.” McClinton shared.
Henderson says his goal is to help as many homeless combat the chilly weather and in the future, help them with housing.
“I feel sad for them,” Henderson said. ” I kept on praying for them every single day. Just wanted to do something about it.”
Jaylan, you are doing the most and we love it.
