Won’t He Do It! Charlotte Man Spends $200K Lotto Winnings to Help Homeless

If pay it forward were a person it would be Barry Shipp.

The Charlotte native won $200K (okay, $143K after taxes) off a $5 scratch off.

“I saw zero and another zero, and then I seen a comma and another zero and another zero,” Shipp told WCCB Charlotte, “I said, this can’t be a winner.”

But it was and he knows exactly how he’s going to spend it.

“I’m going to donate a large part of the the winnings to my nonprofit Pivot Point,” said Shipp.

Barry’s nonprofit creates tiny homes for the homeless.

“Everybody’s talking about affordable housing and low income housing. This is for no income,” explained Shipp, who was once homeless.

One scratch off will help create a dozen tiny homes for the Charlotte community.

God’s plan, indeed.
