Da Baby Pops Up at Charlotte High School to Perform for Students

If you live in Charlotte (as I do and thousands of other NY transplants.) you know rapper Da Baby makes frequent surprise pop ups in Queen city to greet fans and give out cash.

Monday was no different for the native son.

Da Baby surprised students at Garinger High School by popping up at a school assembly.

“I suggest that you cherish your last two months of high school and being a child … I love y’all, appreciate y’all. I’m right around the corner anytime you need me,” he said before singing his hit ‘ROCKSTAR,’ reports Charlotte Observer.

Da Baby’s surprise school performance kicks off Lovin Loud Musical Fest, a new three-day street festival in Charlotte where Da Baby will be one of 40 artists performing.

“Talking to DaBaby, one of the things he said to me was, ‘I didn’t have this when I was coming up.’ You know, Charlotte’s not a big music town, and so as we grow, we want to help the music grow with the cultural side of Charlotte and the artistic side of Charlotte — and he said the same thing,” Bob Durkin , co-founder of Southern Entertainment and organizer of festival, told Charlotte Observer.

In between taking selfies and making teachers bop to ROCKSTAR, Bob Durkin presented a $10,000 check to music department at Garinger for new uniforms and instruments.

That will certainly come in handy.

That’s not all. The students also got 50 free festival tickets.

The $10K check and festival tickets come from Lovin Loud Music festival organizers.

The Lovin Loud music fest jumps off May 3-5.

“I almost felt like it wasn’t real,” said Chevis Anderson, the performing arts director at Garinger High School. “We don’t get that many opportunities to get funds, especially $10,000 … I was overwhelmed with excitement and joy because it never happens.”

Pinch yourself, baby because it’s real. For us regular folks, yeah, click here to purchase tickets.
