It’s official! Steph and Ayesha Curry are the undisputed most valued power couple in the Bay Area.
Don’t believe me? Here is further proof.
On Thursday, Steph and Ayesha Curry announced they’re investing $25 million over five years to boost literacy in Oakland public schools through their Eat.Learn.Play org.
The investment will provide 10,000 professional tutors to offer one on one tutoring for students falling a few grades behind on their reading for 18 Oakland public elementary schools.
“This commitment is about more than just closing the literacy gap—it’s about giving these kids the confidence to succeed in all areas of life,” Stephen and Ayesha Curry said in a statement. We’ve seen firsthand the impact this level of tutoring support can have on a child’s development, and it is our hope that we can work to close the literacy gap and encourage reading for a generation of students.”
It’s desperately needed. Like Jay Z says, numbers don’t lie and given these stats we wish they did.
According to Department of Education, two-thirds of US students aren’t able to read at their grade level, nationally. In Oakland almost half of all elementary school students are below their reading grade level.
It’s a good thing the Bay has a golden couple (Steph has the hardware to proof it) lifting the kids up to a level playing field.
