SC Hair Stylist Makes Cancer Patients ‘Look Good’ and ‘Feel Good’ with Custom Wigs

There’s no greater high than that ‘rip me out the plastic’ cause this shiny silk press made me brand new.

South Carolina hair stylist Denise Hammond wants all her clients to feel that way, so she launched “Wigs for Warriors”–a nonprofit that creates custom wigs for cancer patients.

Denise told ABC 15 she was inspired to help cancer patients look good after losing her sister to the disease several years ago.

“Battling cancer, you’re probably going to lose your hair during chemo. So, when my friend came to me and told me what was going on with her. I knew that I could pick up her spirits. I could make her feel better about herself,” said Hammond.

Now Denise is dedicating her time and talent to this passion project.

Wigs for Warriors aim is to “help other military veterans and the community by providing wigs and support along the way. I will offer a variety of pre-made, customized wigs in different colors, lengths, and styles. Hair loss can contribute to a person feeling physically and socially less attractive which could be detrimental to one’s self-esteem. By providing this service, l aim to make a difference in someone’s life and bring a smile to their face,” the website reads.

Those smiles are well deserved. Because just as Wigs for Warriors motto say, when you look good, you feel good.
