Reggae Star Shaggy Sends Supplies to Jamaica After Being Ravaged by Hurricane Melissa

Mr. Bombastic standing ten toes down for his homeland.

🎶Shorty, you’re my angel, you’re my darling angel

Girl, you’re my friend when I’m in need, lady🎶

Our friends in Jamaica are definitely switching that lyric from girl to boy on Shaggy’s joint “Angel,” because the Reggae superstar certainly earned his wings by sending much needed aid to his native Jamaica on Thursday.

Shaggy linked up with Orlando lawyer Dan Newlin, whose two private planes were used to deliver food and supplies to the most battered parts of Jamaica.

According to NBC6, Shaggy arranged for three relief flights–carrying water, medicine, flashlights and other necessities to land in Kingston on Thursday and one Saturday.

The supplies will be distributed to charities already on the ground, like the Christian nonprofit Food for the Poor that aims to combat hunger and poverty across the Caribbean.

“My country has been devastated by this,” Shaggy told NBC6.

Shaggy still lives in Kingston alongside his wife, who saw the wrath of Hurricane Melissa first hand.

“My wife was on the ground at our home in Jamaica, and the destruction was horrendous,” he said.

The New York Times reports 28 deaths in Jamaica as a result of Hurricane Melissa and 30 deaths in Haiti.

Continued prayers for Jamaica and Haiti.
