Imagine for a sec, moms that you have to find a size 23 sneaker for your son.
Yep, you read that right: SIZE 23.
That was Tamika Neal’s dilemma. She is the mom of 16-year-old Jor’el Bolden, who was in desperate need of new kicks.
The problem is these would have to be new custom sneakers costing more than $1000. For just one pair!
The Kansas City mom started a GoFundMe account that raised a whooping $12,359.
Kansas City community also donated “thousands of dollars to Bolden’s cause,” KCTV reports.
It wasn’t long before the story went viral and got Shaquille O’Neal’s attention.
Shaq met with Bolden and soon after had three big boxes delivered to Bolden.
“It’s better than Christmas morning. Santa didn’t send this, Shaq did,” Neal said.
The boxes were filled with new clothes and shoes. Shaquille O’Neal even pulled ‘fits from his own closet.
Y’all, even the Papa John shirt was in the bag. The same one he wore in the commercials.
The other boxes included nearly 20 pairs of shoes.
Despite Bolden being one size bigger than Shaq–Shaq’s shoe size is 22 wide and Bolden is 23–the kicks fit more comfortably than his original pair.
“They are a big help for now,” Neal said. “But he will need a bigger shoe eventually, and that’s what this money is for.”
Bolden is grateful for his village and hopes to pay it forward in the future with his boxing dreams.
“They are a big help for now,” Neal said. “But he will need a bigger shoe eventually, and that’s what this money is for.”
Moms always find a way.
