Happy Charlotte Give Black Day! Tap In to These Five Black Charities

Happy Give Black Day, y’all.

Give Black Day is a nationwide day of giving to Black charities and nonprofits that promote racial funding equity.

Young Black and Giving Back Institute launched Give Black Day in 2018. They circled Aug 28th for the occasion because of all the pivotal events that occurred on this exact same day.

Here are a few:

Emmitt Till was murdered on this day in 1955.

Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech during the March on Washington on this day in 1963.

Jackie Robinson began the process of integrating Major League Baseball today in 1945.

See what I mean?

Now, let’s move forward (in my Kamala Harris voice) in creating our own historic markers by donating our coins to five deserving nonprofits that help empower the culture:

Fearless Brown Girls: Charlotte-based non-profit that offer entrepreneurial skills to young girls, including pitching competitions and networking events

I Will Survive, Inc: Atlanta based 501(c) where the mission is to “is to provide economic support, prevention education, and health & wellness services to those at higher risk and affected by breast cancer.”

Gracious Hands Transitional House for homeless women and children. They have supported over 400 women and children since opening their doors nearly a decade ago

The Servants Project is “dedicated to making a tangible difference through our three core initiatives: offering tutoring scholarships to elementary and middle school students, providing emergency shelter during severe weather for the unhoused, and sending comfort packages to grieving mothers who have experienced miscarriage or infant loss.”

The Afiya Center the only Black reproductive justice center in North Texas that fosters, educates and empowers Black woman, girls, femmes, and transgender/gender non-conforming people.

So far $170,342 has been raised for Give Black Day. Only three hours left, fam. Click here to donate.
