Anybody else startin’ to think the “S” stands for Superman instead of Shaq?
The NBA icon offered a grieving family support during a devastating tragedy.
Shaquille O’Neal paid the funeral expenses for four sisters, aged 2, 4, 6 and 7, that sadly perished in a house fire in Chadbourn, NC on Aug 30th.
Patrick Ellis, the father of the late girls and his 11-year-old daughter managed to escape the blaze.
So did the girls’ mom Reagan Powers, who was charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse for leaving the kids alone when the fire started.
“It touches every one of us parents, neighbors, and human beings,” O’Neal said. “It was not just a gesture of support, it was a moral responsibility. These were innocent lives, full of promise, taken far too soon.”
“You are not alone in your pain,” O’Neal said. “We see you. We mourn with you and we’re here to help you carry this burden in any way we can.”
Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett helped to coordinate the donation, despite the family living in Columbus County. It helps that Shaq is director of community relations for Henry County Sheriff’s office for five years and wanted to lend a hand.
Thankfully the NBA legend’s heart isn’t made of steel.
