Before our fave spelling bee champ came on the scene, Kiki Shepard with the fly ‘fits as co-host of “Showtime at the Apollo” was the only one we recognized.
Rightfully so, because our girl ate down in those gorgeous gowns when showcasing amateur contestants on Apollo.
Sadly, Kiki unexpectedly died of a heart attack on Monday.
But she will be remembered for more than her beautifully manicured hand over Lauryn Hill’s head. Yeah, you read that right.
Kiki launched a non-profit in 2006, The KIS Foundation, to raise awareness for people living with sickle cell disease.
KIS Foundation had the backs of people living with sickle cell disease with their outreach programs.
Like their crisis care package program that provided necessary items ( pain medicine, heating pad, blanket and much more) to sickle cell patients in the hospital.
And their Catch Up Plan, a classroom tutorial for teachers, whose students are battling sickle cell disease.
Not to mention countless blood drives, holiday toy drives and their annual celebrity bowling fundraisers (last month was the latest one).
Kiki was always style and grace, but her heart and advocacy to others was her best accessory.
Rest in Peace, 👑 Kiki
