MCM | NBA Hall of Famer Visits Mozambique with UNICEF

Dikembe Mutombo took a break from defending his house to visit a Mozambique hospital supported by UNICEF last week.

The former Houston Rocket took the sojourn to the southern African nation, alongside Eric Bledsoe of the Phoenix Suns, to spread awareness about UNICEF Kid Power–a program meant to combat malnutrition (affecting 16 million children worldwide) by motivating kids to be active.

Dikembe (a UNICEF board member) and Eric met with some of the children battling the illness. And discussed life-saving treatments UNICEF provides for malnourishment, like protein packets the org distributes to each child.

UNICEF Kid Power program also helps kids pay it forward. The more active kids are wearing their power bands, the more points they’ll earn to go on missions spreading the programs effectiveness. Thus saving lives.

Dikembe did his part too by challenging the local b-ball team to some hoops.

If you’re wondering how well the Maputo team defended their house…the score is still being tallied.

Man Candy Monday | Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Boyega Visit Childrens Hospitals

In a galaxy far, far away, a tall, dark, handsome man showed his sensitive side by visiting a local childrens’ hospital. And, ladies, he’s got an British accent. *Swoon*

No need to hijack Scott Kelly’s space shuttle, girls.

That galaxy is across the pond in England (unless you’re reading this from Mars, Pluto, Uranus, Satu–you get the point.)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega Finn visited Royal London hospital last week to train some junior stormtroopers. Like Daniel who is battling a brain tumor.

Daniel and other kids were treated to lightsaber duels, gifts and selfies. The meet-and-greet produced an adorbs convo listed below.

Layla: Finn where’s Rey?
Finn: I don’t know, I got beat by Kylo and I can’t remember anything
Layla: Okay I’ll be your Rey today. Okay?
Finn: Okay! Lead the way

In the States, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took a break from filming Baywatch to visit sick kids at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.

The chiseled cutie even held up production on Baywatch to fulfill a promise he made to a patient’s mother.

Johnson posted this message on his Facebook page.

So I called an audible and went to visit Christopher. Glad we did… While I was visiting the Pediatric Specialty Ward surprising the kids, I got word from my team that there was a mom who was pleading with our production staff, that I go upstairs to her son’s room to give him a much needed big surprise. Since he’s older he’s in the main hospital and not in pediatric care.
We were shooting Baywatch Movie scenes outside of the hospital, but instead of heading back to shoot I called the audible, put production on hold and went upstairs to see this young man.

I walked in and his smile lit up the room! And I mean lit that room up!;) We talked for a while about his family, his school and how hard he’s working to eventually graduate AND we talked about how COOL all his scars are from his multiple surgeries – from his head to his chest – those scars are badges of honor and the reminder of how beyond tough this kid is.

Right before I left his mom looked at him and said, “Christopher I can’t give you anything, but I’m so happy I could give you this today…” and she started to breakdown, which was captured in this pic.

Made me think to give so much credit to these parents who would do anything to take their kid’s pain away and ANYTHING to bring a smile to their faces. As a papa bear I understand.
Glad this mom brought a smile to Christopher’s face. And glad I got a chance to shake the hand of this very strong and inspiring young man.

Stay strong Christopher and show them scars with pride. You’re the man! ~ DJ

J Cole and Jordin Sparks Visit Sick Fans

Nurse, we need candy stripper outfits, STAT. Because rapper J Cole and pop singer Jordin Sparks want to surprise some deserving fans.

The “Be Free” rapper did just that earlier this week, minus the red-and-whites. When visiting Fayetteville, North Carolina native Tae Stackhouse at the North Carolina Cancer Hospital. Tae’s aunt and mother arranged the meeting between the superfan and his fave artist. And made it even more worthwhile with his encouraging words.

I really appreciate this just wanna give a big s/o to my mom and my aunt for bringing my favorite rapper to see me 󾍛🏽 I’…

J Cole can add another good deed to his ever growing list (providing homes to single moms and attending a fan’s graduation he helped pay tuition for.)

Meanwhile, Jordin Sparks was making new friends at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
