Boy Grows Out Hair for Nearly Three Years to Donate to Cancer Patient

Long hair…this kid does care!

When (then) 8-year-old Thomas Moore from Maryland found out how brutal cancer is to the body–as explained by his mom Angie Polus after watching  a video of 5-year-old cancer patient Kyssi Andrews, he decided to donate his not quite long enough locks.

“Once I explained that she had cancer, and what cancer was, and how chemo affected the body he immediately decided he wanted to grow his hair long again and give it to Kyssi,” Polus says.

It took Thomas two years to grow out his love locs. Sadly, Kyssi passed away June 2015. Yet, it made Thomas even more determined to grow out his hair to help others.

Thomas’ hair journey from a Luda-style afro, Solange-esque curls circa Sol-Angel & The Hadley St. Dreams and over the shoulder was all worth it.

This month, at 10, he was finally able to cut his hair. His aunt tweeted the news, which was retweeted over 61,000 times and liked 121,000 times.

Thomas’ beautiful mane was made into three wigs for sick children, reports Scary Mommy.

As if that’s not a reward in and of its self, NBA player Derek Anderson will present Thomas with his Act of Kindness Award through his foundation Stamina in October.

Thomas told Scary Mommy he’s just happy his hair doesn’t get caught in the bushes when he plays outside.

Fair enough.

Man Candy Monday | Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Boyega Visit Childrens Hospitals

In a galaxy far, far away, a tall, dark, handsome man showed his sensitive side by visiting a local childrens’ hospital. And, ladies, he’s got an British accent. *Swoon*

No need to hijack Scott Kelly’s space shuttle, girls.

That galaxy is across the pond in England (unless you’re reading this from Mars, Pluto, Uranus, Satu–you get the point.)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega Finn visited Royal London hospital last week to train some junior stormtroopers. Like Daniel who is battling a brain tumor.

Daniel and other kids were treated to lightsaber duels, gifts and selfies. The meet-and-greet produced an adorbs convo listed below.

Layla: Finn where’s Rey?
Finn: I don’t know, I got beat by Kylo and I can’t remember anything
Layla: Okay I’ll be your Rey today. Okay?
Finn: Okay! Lead the way

In the States, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took a break from filming Baywatch to visit sick kids at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.

The chiseled cutie even held up production on Baywatch to fulfill a promise he made to a patient’s mother.

Johnson posted this message on his Facebook page.

So I called an audible and went to visit Christopher. Glad we did… While I was visiting the Pediatric Specialty Ward surprising the kids, I got word from my team that there was a mom who was pleading with our production staff, that I go upstairs to her son’s room to give him a much needed big surprise. Since he’s older he’s in the main hospital and not in pediatric care.
We were shooting Baywatch Movie scenes outside of the hospital, but instead of heading back to shoot I called the audible, put production on hold and went upstairs to see this young man.

I walked in and his smile lit up the room! And I mean lit that room up!;) We talked for a while about his family, his school and how hard he’s working to eventually graduate AND we talked about how COOL all his scars are from his multiple surgeries – from his head to his chest – those scars are badges of honor and the reminder of how beyond tough this kid is.

Right before I left his mom looked at him and said, “Christopher I can’t give you anything, but I’m so happy I could give you this today…” and she started to breakdown, which was captured in this pic.

Made me think to give so much credit to these parents who would do anything to take their kid’s pain away and ANYTHING to bring a smile to their faces. As a papa bear I understand.
Glad this mom brought a smile to Christopher’s face. And glad I got a chance to shake the hand of this very strong and inspiring young man.

Stay strong Christopher and show them scars with pride. You’re the man! ~ DJ

Tahj Mowry showed he not only inherited the Mowry good look genes (helllooo light skin) but their kind hearts.

The Smart Guy actor spent the day at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Where he made friends with Kasey Harvey, a teenage cancer patient, undergoing her 22nd chemotherapy treatment!?!.What a warrior.

Along with Tahj rooting for her speedy recovery, Johnny Bananas from MTV’s The Challenge is her personal get well cheerleader. He even presented her with a $8,000 donation in honor of Diem Brown, an MTV celeb that died of cancer last year.

When not visiting local hospitals, Tahj is promoting his debut single Flirt on itunes.

Or hanging out with his famous sibs.

Terrence J took a break from being behind the E! news desk to spread some cheer to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County yesterday.

The actor/TV host tagged along with his work buddy Catt Sadler to takeover Seacrest Studios within the hospital. They hung out with some patients, took selfies and had them listen in as the duo took to the airwaves.

Sounds kind of weird that a media room that isn’t made up of a basic TV and radio would be inside a hospital. Well, that’s the point. Media extraordinaire Ryan-when-does-he-sleep-Seacrest used his foundation to launch a radio and TV studio, two years ago, so kids would be motivated to get out of bed.

What better motivation is there then seeing Star-Lord aka Chris Pratt–who visited the hospital in January–roaming the halls. Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Kylie and Kendall Jenner also made surprise visits earlier this year.

And for the kids unable to join in on the fun can watch via closed-circuit TV in their room, and make song requests from their hospital phone.

Not a bad setup for a hospital…but sadly those privileges are only for the West Coast crew. We’ll have to stick to basic cable (fees are collected daily) on the East side. Ain’t nothing like O.C. living…Callllifffffforrrrnniiiaaaa. Who remembers that theme song? Sadly, I do.
