I decided to volunteer for Dress for Success because it combines the two things I love to do: shop and give makeovers. However, after my first day as a personal shopper I realized it’s more than helping women pair the right blouse with their skirt. I couldn’t help but choke up when one woman refused an outfit because it was too nice and she thought she would ruin it because she lived in a shelter and didn’t own a iron. The mission is renewal.  Helping these ladies restore their self-confidence to go into the workforce. And making them feel like a queen for the day is the perfect bridge to that destination. All the volunteers (including me) convinced the woman to take the outfit, and what I remember most wasn’t the suit’s design or how it fit on her, but the hug she gave me at the end of her session.
