Rapper Fat Joe always comes through for the Boogie Down Bronx and it’s no different now.
The “Lean Back” rapper raised $1 million dollars to New York City Mayor’s Fund—relief fund for victims of Jan 9th Bronx apartment fire that killed 17 people, including two 5-year-old girls, 6-year-old boy and 2-year-old boy—on Wednesday and only took one day to raise it.
Pretty sure Fat Joe put in a quarter of those donations.
“No matter where I go in the world or what I achieve, I could never forget my community,” he told Pix11 News. “I had to react, but I couldn’t do it on my own.”
Fat Joe had help from celeb friends; Jay Z and DJ Khaled also made hefty donations to Mayor’s Fund.
The devastating fire, caused by a space heater and shoddy building maintenance, led to 17 deaths caused by smoke inhalation. Leaving 118 families homeless.
“We’re just trying to help the people,” Fat Joe said. “People are homeless … they don’t know how to pay their bills, it’s cold in New York. And so our hearts pour out.”
Fat Joe isn’t done yet. The Bronx rapper took to Instagram to urge fans to help these poor families in dire need.
“I need all my people world wide to come together for the families devastated by the fire in the Bronx,” wrote Fat Joe on his Instagram. “I’m donating and I’m asking everyone that has a Heart to donate. these people are mostly immigrants that have no where to go they lost everything. it’s 10 degrees in the Bronx today! WE NEED YOUR HELP.”
