We can all agree that everyone deserves to look and feel fresh n’ clean–whether you have a roof or not.
No one knows it better than ATL native Nicky Crawford. His nonprofit, Flowing with Blessings Inc., founded in 2022, helps homeless with meals, healthcare, haircuts and showers.
Now the retiree has rolled out (literally) a ‘Wash Bus’ aka cheese bus revamped as a mobile laundry with the help of five Georgia Tech students.
The five Tech students alongside their professor was tasked with installing seven washers, seven dryers, sort and fold section, oh, one other little thing, plumbing.
Well, challenge accepted and executed with the help of customized water tanks placed underneath the bus.
Nicky’s dedication to helping the homeless have dignity was the real blueprint.
Nicky realized that after the unhoused showered they put on the same dirty cleans. He didn’t think new clothes were the answer because the homeless were attached to their own.
According to Technique, “the Wash Bus currently runs about 60 loads of laundry in a day and can be found at Grady Memorial Hospital on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Wash Bus and shower trailers have served an estimated 4000 unhoused people in Atlanta.”
Nicky is hoping the numbers will continue to grow.
