GMA Gives Life-Changing Surprise to Detroit Family

It was a real feel good Friday at GMA (Lord, knows we needed one!) when Michael Strahan slid a $40K check into Armorion Smith’s hands.

And boy, is he ever deserving of it.

Armorion, at just 21 is legal guardian of his four siblings—Armond, 16; Avaugn, 15; Arial, 11; and Amaira, 3—after his mom died from breast cancer less than three months ago.

“If I don’t step up, who could they turn to? I’m just happy we’re all together. That’s just the biggest thing. I’m gonna be their protector,” Armorion told Strahan, reflecting on his promise to his mom to keep the family together.

Even if it requires balancing parenthood with being a student and football player at Michigan State University.

Depending on the community fundraisers helps and so will the 40 stacks Cashapp and GMA blessed him with. But that’s not all. The Smith family was also surprised with a trip to Disneyland resort with access to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventures.

Aaaaannnddd the grand finale was a brand new GMC Acadia SUV donated by Detroit GMC dealers.

Just the lift the Smith family needs.
