Chef’s Kiss! Retired GA Cook Expands Food Service Nonprofit to Feed Community

Chef Hank Reid may have retired from the industry, but his passion for feeding underserved communities in the Peach state is thriving.

Chef Hank launched the nonprofit Lettum Eat in 2019 to fill the gap of food insecure neighborhoods in Gwinnett County.

“We use a professional food service platform to minister to those in need and those suffering with food insecurities,” Chef Hank told 11Alive News.

The name of the nonprofit–birthed out of his time spent in the kitchen–makes it clear what the mission is.

“Lettum Eat is kind of a call or statement we use in the kitchen to say ‘Hey, your food is ready’ or ‘Hey, we’re ready,'” Reid said.

So were the residents of the 770–since 2019 Lettum Eat has fed over 300,000 people.

Chef Hank has plans to feed even more. He purchased three large trailers from Gwinnett school district and is converting them into kitchens.

Once completed, he plans to place the trailers in the neediest areas.

“The plan is having a really nice deck around the outside, so we have events and let people in so they can experience more of a restaurant-type vibe with an outdoor feel and things of that nature,” Reid said.

Chef Hank says he’s going for a more hangout vibe to cater to anyone in need.

“There’s a stigma of shame that’s usually associated with receiving help so we try to do everything on our end to make that look different and make that look festive,” Reid added.

According to 11Alive, two of the three trailers is fully funded and Chef Hank is trying to raise $350,000 to complete the other two.
