Happy Cinco De Mayo, Blinkers!

It couldn’t come at a better time…because it’s feel good Friday, y’all.

So grab that Corona with lime–dont forget the tacos–settle in and let’s recap some of the good things that went down this week.

Starting with our favorite quarterback Colin Kaepernick, sans a team. (Insert rant: will somebody pick this dude up already?)

Colin’s giving tour landed in front of the New York State Parole Board on Sunday, where the former 49er handed out custom suits to recently released prisoners looking for jobs.

Colin’s doing the damn thing when it comes to helping out in the community. Keep up the goodworks, CK.

Now for some Obama news that doesn’t involve “health” or “care” ’cause ain’t nothing feel good about that ish.

Anyway, Barack and Michelle Obama announced making a $2 million donation to create 800 summer jobs in Chicago on Wednesday.

“One of the things that we’ll be starting this year is Michelle and I are personally going to donate $2 million to our summer jobs programs here in the community,” he said at the South Shore Cultural Center. “[It’s] so that right away young people can get to work and we can start providing opportunities to all of them.”

So take that, all you salty Democrats (**cough Bernie Sanders cough**) who chastised Obama for filling his pockets with Wall Street dollars. A cash grab former presidents have done for decades, mind you. At least Obama is doing it to help out his adopted city. To prevent more violence from coming out of Chiraq.

One Summer Chicago will be hosting summer jobs for the teens.

Cheers to more people like Obama.

TGIF, Blinkers!

The weekend starts riiiggghhhtt…wait for it…now. But before we whip out that Olivia Pope-style wine glass, let’s take a look back at all the good news stories this week.

Starting with POTUS Orange’s Trumpcare. As of three hours ago the bill is DOA. Leaving Obamacare in place. And 24 million people all take a collective sigh of relief.#LongLiveObama

If you were feeling salty at Colin Kaepernick for suspending his take a knee challenge, this may get you back on his team. On the heels of POTUS Orange proposing cutting Meals on Wheels funding (heartless mofo) C.K. came through by donating $50,000. If this doesn’t have teamwork written all on it…can we get this dude back in shoulder pads please?

Beyonce is showering one deserving fan with her Black Girl Magic. Houston teen Ebony Banks battling a rare form of cancer. To cheer her up friends from her high school, Alief Hastings started an online campaign to arrange a convo with Queen Bey. After numerous Instagram, Twitter and Facebook postings with hashtag #EBOBMEETSBEYONCE (Ebob is Ebony’s nickname) Beyonce Facetimed Ebony on Wednesday afternoon.

Telling Ebony, currently in MD Anderson Cancer Center, she loves her.

Dreams do come true.

Have a great weekend, Blinkers!!

Colin Kaepernick Teaches Kids Their Rights at his Oakland Camp

Colin Kaepernick’s fight the power “Know Your Rights” day camp for kids was officially in session Saturday. No afros required.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback schooled over 100 Oakland pre-teens on how to be a responsible adult in the real world. I think even grown ups can learn some lessons from this woke player.

First lesson: know your rights (hence the name of the camp) which in turn can lead to better interactions with police. Hopefully.

Other topics covered–college prep, financial independence and health and nutrition.

Colin–with some help from friends– founded and organized the “Know Your Rights” camp, according to Theybf.

It isn’t shocking given Kaepernick’s silent protest to take a knee during the National Anthem for the country’s racial disparity problem.

So why not teach the kiddies to be just as fearless?

Kaepernick took a page out of the Black Panther Party’s play book; adopting their 10 Rights for his camp kids to follow. He printed them on a t-shirt lest the kids forget.

1. You have the right to be free.

2. You have the right to be healthy.

3. You have the right to be brilliant.

4. You have the right to be safe.

5. You have the right to be loved.

6. You have the right to be courageous

7. You have the right to be alive.

8. You have the right to be trusted.

9. You have the right to be educated.

10. You have the right to know your rights.

“We want to teach you today about financial literacy, how you can pursue higher education, how you can be physically fit and healthy,” said Colin. “We will talk about police brutality, and what to do about it, but we also have lawyers, professors, health and fitness experts, because we want you to be able to live the life of your dreams.”

Colin wants to take his camp beyond the Bay Area, so every kid knows their rights in the country. Assuring the campers:

“This is just the beginning man. What we’ve done here today in Oakland, we want to do all over the country, in cities all over this country, by bringing together local leaders, local activists and local youth, and not only giving them the skills and lessons they need, but we want to show them how much we love and value them.”

Sounds like a plan.
