The city of Boston flexed its strength earlier this week during the Boston marathon. It’s the second anniversary since the Boston Bombing. Among Boston strong was Crazy Eyes. Only, in this case, they were more focused on the finish line.

“Orange is the New Black” star Uzo Aduba, a BU alum, crossed the finish line in five hours. Impressive. She told People she chanted to herself “just keep going.” That she did. But, why did she lace up her running shoes?

Two reasons: 1. To honor a close family friendly that died of breast cancer last year. She Sharpie-ed her name (Andrea) on her Dana Farber Marathon Challange running tee. And raised $10,000 for the org’s cancer research facility that studies the causes of the disease. 2. Uzo is a Boston bean and wanted to show support for the town still suffering from the terrorist act two years ago.

Here is what she told People:

It feels like the right thing to do. It still feel pretty raw, and with [the trial] it almost feels like a Band-Aid getting pulled back again. That’s where I grew up, where I learned what a marathon even was … to be a part of it, it feels particularly special.

I salute Uzo and all the runners that courageously took up the runner’s trail for those who couldn’t. Boston Strong!!

Emmy-winner Uzo Aduba, better known as Crazy Eyes on “Orange Is The New Black” has officially signed up for this spring’s Boston Marathon.

The Mass native is lacing up her running shoes for the Claudia Adams-Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber. Whew!!  She’ll be one of 500 participants trying to raise $5.2 million through the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge.

“Running the Boston Marathon has been a lifelong dream, and I am proud to be supporting Dana-Farber as I make this dream come true on April 20th,” says Aduba.

Uzo will be running the challenge alongside cancer survivors, patients, family and friends of those affected by cancer. All with the same goal of raising money for innovative research to combat the disease through the Barr Program.

It’s that time of year again. When the weather gets warm and the lingering sunshine streaming through a window is a stark reminder that winter seclusion is over. Well, unless you live in the Northeast in which we’re beginning to believe spring has gone the way of the dodo bird. Hotlanta is likely a city living up to its name right now, so why not take advantage of it? You can start with a good cause. Like the one Usher Raymond’s ex-wife Tameka Raymond is promoting; a 5k run or walk event to support Kile’s World Foundation that honors her late son’s memory. It’s the first anniversary of Kile’s World 5k Run/ Walk and all money raised will go towards the Foundation’s Summer Camp that promotes kiddies in the arts. So lace up those kicks for charity.
