Buffalo Bills Player Marcell Dareus Takes Philanthropic Sojourn to Haiti

c5jyt2pukaiinla

Buffalo Bills tackle Marcell Dareus wanted to do more than donate $25 Gs to Hope for Haiti charity. The NFLer wanted to see how it was spent.

So he hopped a flight and landed in his father’s homeland this week. Where he visited orphanages, schools and a hospital, reports AL.com

The Alabama native got a warm welcome from the island nation that is still reeling from October’s Hurricane Matthew and the powerful 2010 earthquake that left thousands homeless and dead.

“I’m happy that I’m able to partner with Hope for Haiti, which is giving me the opportunity to meet and understand the people who are benefiting from my support,” Dareus said . “… I love giving back, especially to kids in need, but this is extra special because I’ve never been on a trip like this before. The Haitian people have seen hardship after hardship with the earthquake and then the hurricane. Being able to meet with them and show them that I care about them is really important to me.”

Hope for Haiti charity–that aims to improve the lives of Haitian children through education, health care, water and infrastructure–was happy to see their philanthropic partner in person.

“We are inspired by the generosity of Marcell Dareus and the Dareus Foundation for their investment in the Haitian people,” said Skyler Badenoch , the CEO of Hope for Haiti. “Without the support of investors like Marcell, Hope for Haiti’s work would not be possible. We are so grateful and we look forward to making an immediate and lasting impact together.”

The service-oriented sojourn already had a major influence on the star player for his father’s roots there. Marcell’s dad died before he entered the NFL.

“My dad grew up in Haiti, and I always hoped I would make it there some day,” Dareus said . “Although my dad died when I was younger, I’m lucky to have other family here in the States that have told me stories since I was a kid about life in Haiti. Being in a position to not only visit, but also make a donation that will really impact Haitian kids and their families is a great feeling. I know it will be an eye-opening trip.”

Looks like it was.

Jadakiss Hands Out Coats to Homeless in N

jadakiss

If there was ever a day someone less fortunate needed a coat, it would be today.

And let’s be honest…a sturdy umbrella.

Luckily Jadakiss hit the streets of New York City yesterday to hand out winter coats to the homeless.

On the eve of the Nor’easter, The Lox member rolled up in front of Penn Station with a truck full of coats and clothes.

The ‘Why’ rapper said he wanted to give back to others.

And even cited his niece for being the brains behind the charitable act.

Whoever is to blame it’s greatly needed.

Future and Baby Future’s Holiday Homecoming ! Rapper Throws Toy and Charity Drive in ATL

dsc_4803

Santa, take note, my brother. Yes I said brother. Ask about the chocolate Santa come up.

Anyway, he may wanna pull out a pen and pad because Future is giving him a run for his money.

Yesterday, the “Married to the Game” rapper held his fourth annual Winter Wish Land charity and toy drive–through his non-profit, Free Wishes Foundation that encourages kids to dream big.

The ATL kiddies sure did. They piled into Atlanta’s Bessie Branham Park where Future hooked up over 1300 dreamers with some Christmas wishes sans the Santa suit. That doesn’t mean he didn’t have elves…err corporate friends/sponsors.

Like Reebok who partnered with Free Wishes by donating 500 pairs of kicks to the cause.

Samsung doled out free tablets and headphones for the young’uns. Use with caution…

In all 1300 kids walked away with new shoes, coats and toys.

But that’s not all.

Ciara’s baby daddy was all about philanthropy this weekend. Future also attended the UNCF Masked Ball alongside Usher, Tyrese and Jeezy. All three made a gentleman’s pact to donate $25K each to the non-profit supports. Black students journey towards college enrollment.

Future is slaying the giving game this holiday season.

Partay with Purpose! Hill Harper and Nate Parker Host Toy Drive Fundraiser

Black Hollywood got in the holiday spirit last night for the “Manifest Your Destiny” 9th annual Toy Drive and Fundraiser at W Hollywood hotel.

Birth of a Nation star Nate Parker and Hill Harper arranged the festivities and called on their celeb buds to cross an item off a kid’s wish list.

“Soul Food’s” Vanessa Williams showed off her date for the evening–a Moana doll.

Vanessa, likely, put Moana under the tree with all the other donated toys that will go to impoverished kids through Salvation Army Transitional Living Center in LA and the Summer Empowerment Academy (SEA) foundation.

Checks are also appreciated–I mean look at those Kool-Aide smiles–as you can see.

‘Push Through’ Third Graders and Recognize Your Greatness, Says Teacher

screen-shot-2016-11-11-at-12-05-02-pm

Jasmyn Wright is the teacher every parent prays for–inspiring, encouraging and devoted to childrens’ ability to succeed.

Lucky enough for the City of Brotherly Love parentals, the 27-year-old landed at Frederick  Douglass Elementary in Philly. Where her third grade class is taught to “push through” their obstacles daily by reciting this catchy mantra:

“What if it’s too hard?” the teacher asks her students.

“I’m gonna push through!” they respond.

“What if it’s too tough?” Wright asks.

“I’m gonna push through!” they answer.

“What if you’re just too dumb?” she asks.

“That ain’t true!” they exclaim.

“What if you’re just too young?” the teacher asks.

“That ain’t true!” the students answer.

“What if you just can’t do it?”

“That ain’t true!”

“Why, because …”

“I can do anything I put my mind to!”

Wright cited pioneering black icons–like Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson and Michelle Obama–that “pushed through” to shatter long-held myths about Blacks to teach her students its possible.

The Spelman alum’s video of positive affirmations has been viewed over three million times on Facebook.

“Teaching my 3rd grade black and brown babies to #PushThrough today,” she wrote in the video caption. “Due to unwelcoming, unsettling, and uncomfortable election results, this was our lesson for the day.”

Wright, a poet and spoken word artist, told the Root that molding the young, gifted and black requires boosting their self-esteem. Even more so in light of a Trump presidency.

“I know that with my class specifically, sometimes they struggle with believing in themselves or sometimes they struggle with grappling through an assignment, or they struggle with interactions with their peers.

“With the election that went on, they were more troubled and they were upset,” she continued. “[So I thought,] yes, this is true, this has happened, but that doesn’t stop us from pushing through. We still have a calling, we still have a purpose, we still are made to leave an imprint in the world, and we cannot give up because of whatever happened.”

Which is why the charter school teacher is also helping kids outside the classroom by starting a nonprofit, I Am My Sister’s Keeper, with two friends. Just like POTUS has My Brother’s Keeper to focus on mentoring young men, Wright wants to raise up girls aged 12 to 18.

Let’s all bow our heads and pray for more teachers like Wright.

At Your Service! LL Cool J, Chris Paul Play Waiter at Charity Fundraiser

img_20161025_213222

Imagine LL Cool J giving a rundown on the dinner specials while doing his signature lip lick. And asking what you wanted to order?

This Zane-like fantasy became a reality (in a PG-13 kind of way) when the Doin’ It rapper played waiter at Chris Paul’s Celebrity Server dinner to raise money for his family foundation Sunday.

LL Cool J wasn’t the only celeb to don a waiter jacket. Olympic sprinter Allyson Felix suited up for the LA Clipper’s cause. LA Clippers coach Doc Rivers took orders from host Chris Paul for a change.

Speaking of delegating like a boss. Chris was doing just that during a pre-game server session, on the proper way to pour wine.

For what not to do refer to former baller Sam Cassell.

ET co-host Kevin Frazier emceed the charity dinner while his colleague Nischelle Turner waited tables.

Attendees also got an added treat when Chris Paul and LL Cool J played an impromptu lip sync battle of Snoop’s Gin & Juice.

The Chris Paul Family Foundation “provides resources that enrich and strengthen healthy development of strong communities.”

MCM | ‘Saints & Sinners’ Star Gives to Homeless

christian-keyes

Now we know who the saint is–Christian Keyes.

The Let’s Stay Together star turned his lazy Sunday into day of service. By cleaning out his closets, filling up 10 garbage bags worth of Fall gear for donation to homeless org–My Friend’s House Foundation.

Also known as We Feed the Homeless. The LA-based org provides clothes, food and other basics for the homeless.

My Friend’s House founder Tiffany A. Rose is expanding the charity’s operation. She started a Go Fund Me page seeking $25K, so far she’s earned $17,204.

To earn your halo (Christian has one!) donate your coins here.

The ab-tastic model/actor may also have angel wings because he loves to give back. Especially to his hometown of Flint, Michigan.

Last weekend, he hit the hardwood of MSU with Rev Run’s son Diggy Simmons and Cory Hardrict for the 3rd Annual Hoop for Hope celebrity basketball game.

All the proceeds went to helping 1000 families in need and donating two semi trucks of water to the people of Flint, who have had to live with poisoned water since 2014.

Salute to Christian for doing his part to be more of a saint to his community.

WCW | Rihanna Named Global Ambassador To Foster Education

story_wide-1474877224

Hugh Evans, CEO of Global Citizen, with Rihanna and Global Partnership for Education (GPE) chair, Julia Gillard

This may be the cherry on top of Rihanna’s sweet year of accollades.

Someone grab the cake, cake, cake, cake, cake to celebrate. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

The navy’s idol was appointed Global Ambassador through a partnership with her Clara Lionel Foundation and Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

The blending of the two orgs is to advocate for the billions of children across the globe without an education. And the 330 million kids enrolled in a school, but still aren’t learning.

So, how will Rihanna and her crew combat this?

GPE operates in more than 60 developing countries, spreading their message that “every child receive a quality education.” By making children living in poor or ravished communities a priority.

As GPE’s Global Ambassador, Rih Rih will travel the globe to encourage world leaders and policy makers to get behind educating vulnerable children raised in communities in crisis.

The announcement comes on the heels of Rihanna headlining the Global Citizen Festival on Saturday. The festival’s goal is to end extreme poverity by 2030 by getting people to participate in charity acts.

Rihanna is indeed a rare diamond.

MCM | Sean “Diddy” Combs Donates $1 Million to Alma Mater

story_wide-1474620168

Diddy dug into his deep pockets over the weekend, and pulled out lots and lots of Benjamins (I’m talking 10,000 bundles) to donate to Howard University.

The $1 million donation went toward the HBCU’s business school where a scholarship will be set up in the mogul’s name.

The Sean Combs Scholarship Fund ” will help provide life-altering opportunities for our students, particularly at a time when many come to Howard struggling to meet ever-increasing financial needs,” says Howard University President, Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick.

Diddy presented the check to Dr. Frederick during the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour at Verizon Center in D.C. Friday.

“I was blessed to receive a great education from Howard University – one of the best schools in the world – and it helped to fuel my success in business and life. This scholarship will make it possible for the next generation of leaders to pursue their dreams and achieve greatness,” said Sean “Diddy” Combs. “When I delivered the commencement address at Howard, I asked the students ‘Do you know how powerful you are?’ I know that Howard students are intelligent, talented, passionate, and their hard work will shape the future.”

According to Look to the Stars, Howard will start awarding scholarships Fall 2017 to undergrad business students with a 3.0 GPA with a financial need. The lucky recipients will also get a summer internship at Bad Boy Entertainment or Revolt Media.

Feel Good Friday | Teen Donates Prize- Winning Pizza to Homeless Shelter

Let’s be honest, Friday couldn’t come fast enough amirite?

Well the frickin’ weekend isn’t the only reason to slap a smile on your exhausted face.

Here’s another. Detroit native Hannah Spooner won $500 dollars worth of free Little Caesar’s pizzas through a contest.

Instead of throwing an epic pizza party for friends, family and neighbors, the 19-year-old exercised the art of paying it forward by donating her prize to the local Covenant House Michigan shelter for homeless young kids.

The Huffington Post reports Hannah scoped out a number of charities and orgs before settling on Covenant House.

The shelter’s organizers are more than grateful with her decision.

“Our kids would eat pizza everyday,” Melissa Golpe, the shelter’s PR director told, The Huffington Post. “We have a number of generous people that do really special things for our kids.”

Little Caesar’s did one more thing, the pizza chain threw a free pizza party at the shelter during the shelter’s Total Me Program, where local college kids mentor teens at Covenant House, when they got wind of the story.
