Happy Friday, blinkers. Want a good vibe to carry you into the weekend?
Okay, look no further than THE power couple Meghan Markle and Prince Harry lending a helping hand to Texas’ homeless.
Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support, a safe haven for survivors of domestic violence in Dallas, had extensive damage (bursted pipes, flooded offices, collapsed roof and no electricity!! Geesh!!) after frigid temps hit the Lone Star state last month.
The shelter was so rundown it had to close its doors, for the first time in its 35 year history.
According to CBS News, last year the shelter offered support to 3,700 women and children, which included housing and counseling.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry–through their Archewell Foundation– surprised the shelter by sending a repairman on Sunday to fix the roof and other resources to meet the shelter’s needs.
“Today, we learned that the news of the damages we incurred from Winter Storm Uri reached Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex!” the shelter said in a statement Sunday. “Through their nonprofit, Archewell Foundation, they are supporting us by replacing the roof at our transitional housing facility and also helping us meet our immediate needs.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry even spoke to Genesis workers on Sunday to express “their hearts remain with the community, with the families Genesis serves, and with the volunteers and workers on the ground who selflessly provide care and support to those in need.”
Keep flexin that community service muscle, Duke and Duchess.
